Meet Dr. Daniel Helgerman

Dr. Daniel HelgermanDr. Helgerman grew up in western Pennsylvania where he developed a love for the outdoors and a strong desire to help others. Initially he planned to work in the mental health field by completing his degree in Theology, Philosophy, and Religions with a Psychology minor. However, in the final months of completing his degree he sustained a shoulder injury that severely limited his ability to enjoy the physical activities that sustained him. Through this injury Dr. Helgerman learned first hand how debilitating chronic pain can be to one’s quality of life and happiness. After discovering how effective chiropractic was in his own process of recovery, Dr. Helgerman decided to become a chiropractor to offer the same gift of healing to others and completed his chiropractic education at, Life University in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Helgerman’s chiropractic technique is influenced by the following techniques:

  • Quantum Spinal Mechanics (QSM3) – spent many hours with Dr. Russell Friedman while studying in Atlanta
  • Bio-Geometric Integration (BGI) – the sacred geometry of Dr. Sue Brown
  • Sacro-Occipital Technique® (SOT®) – Dr. Major B. DeJarnette through the lens of professor Dr. Hochman
  • NUCCA- National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association
  • Atlas Orthogonal – studied upper cervical biomechanics under Dr. Roy Sweat while in Atlanta
  • Upper and Lower Kinetic Chains- Active Release Technique
  • Activator Methods- gentle instrument assisted adjustments.
  • Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique (B.E.S.T.) – the gentle work of Dr. William Morter
  • Upper Cervical Specific – the work started it all … Dr. B.J. Palmer
  • Extremity adjusting through Dr. Hearon

Perceiving the Big Picture

Dr. Daniel Helgerman believes that having a healthy, functioning body is the most important aspect to having a high quality of life. Living inside one’s body can feel like being trapped in a prison or can remind us of our rightful freedom to make life an adventure. Recovery from an injury or trauma can literally enable someone to live a life otherwise impossible. It is Dr. Helgerman’s passion to help people achieve their highest potentials through chiropractic care and daily wellness practices, and his healing paradigm emerges from three major premises:

1) The human body is a self-organizing, self-developing, self-maintaining, and self-healing organism and its functions are orchestrated primarily through the central nervous system. The central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord and when the spine is misaligned, especially the neck, it interferes with the nervous systems ability to perform regulatory functions and weakens one’s vitality.

2) The human body moves and operates from the principles of “tensegrity”, meaning the body’s structural integrity is dependent on balanced tension and compression throughout the body from head to toe. When the body is out of balance it becomes more susceptible to the compressing effects of gravity. All pain syndromes in the spine and lower body as well as many visceral complaints (sluggish digestion, trouble breathing, heartburn, etc.) are due to postural collapse under the pressure of gravity.

3) The mind and body of a human being are not isolated from one another. They function together as the unified expression of “bodymind”. It is common for emotional traumas to leave residual tension within our body, keeping us tethered to the past. In our cognitively dominated culture it is common for people to have reconciled a trauma intellectually, but rarely have they allowed the trauma to process through their body. When these emotional tensions are acknowledged and released, the potential for new pathways of bodymind beingness emerge and a person can move from a wiser, more unified self, rather than continuing to feel the body-mind dissonance around certain issues.
